"After five years of doctors, MRIs and x-rays, nothing was diagnosed and no one could help my knee and foot pain. As a second grade teacher, being on my feet all day, I would be in agony at the end of the day. I tried many pain medications, physical therapy, orthodics, and exercise, but nothing relieved the pain. After thinking I tried it all, I heard from a friend about David Sollars, who relieved pain using acupuncture. After a few sessions with David, the pain lessened. Then David introduced me to magnets, which has relieved me from all pain. David has also helped relieve my sinusitis—I no longer have headaches, pressure in my face, or lack of drainage. I can't believe that I suffered for years, but I am just "relieved" that I found someone who believes when I have pain and helps relieve that pain."
Thank you, David!

"Acupuncture has made a significant difference in the amount of bladder irritation I experience with interstitial cystitis. I feel less bladder pain with each treatment and I am urinating less frequently as well. I have reduced the amount of medication that I was taking previously. I think that natural treatments are a better way to go due to the complications caused by so many prescription drugs. Overall, I have been very happy with my acupuncture experience."

"Last summer my primary care physician diagnosed a problem with my left shoulder as bursitis. After a few months of treatments including cortisone shots and medication, I had temporary relief, but the pain always came back. The doctor suggested that perhaps physical therapy might give me some relief. I was in the process of scheduling an appointment for PT when a friend and patient of David Sollars recommended acupuncture. He spoke very highly of Mr. Sollars and raved about the treatment he received for an injured ankle.
My first visit with Mr. Sollars was very educational. He carefully explained the different methods of acupuncture and how they interact with the body. While David was examining my shoulder, I asked if I would experience much pain when he used the needles. He smiled ad said he had already inserted several needles in my arm. After my second visit, there was significant improvement in my shoulder. I had more mobility and less pain I kept getting better and better with each subsequent visit. My shoulder was fine after approximately nine visits.
I was amazed as I had never thought of acupuncture as an alternative to treat pain. It worked for me and I would highly recommend it for anyone with pain. Mr. Sollars said “that he didn’t cure my shoulder, he helped my body cure itself.”

"Feeling debilitated by pregnancy-induced nausea, I contacted David Sollars. A brief telephone conversation with him confirmed that this type of nausea is positively treated by acupuncture. My first visit with David included a consultation and treatment. I explained that I was in my first trimester of my pregnancy and other remedies such as ginger root and sea bands were not alleviating my nausea. David noted that after a few acupuncture treatments, I should see improvement.
After my second treatment, I felt significant improvement. David gave me magnets that I was to place on various points of my wrists, legs, and feet to sustain my good results between treatments. Within a three-week period, my nausea was no longer problematic."

"A Number of Positive Things Started to Occur..."
"I have been a patient of David Sollars for approximately one year for herbal treatments for constant feelings of fatigue, chronic back pain, and allergy problems. These problems affected my ability to enjoy sports, such as running, and left me open to catching every cold that came through the office. Given all the potential herbal remedies on the market and the various claims, I decided to see a to David instead of just experimenting with expensive products which might not even resolve my health issues.
After our discussions and taking the specific herbal combination designed to treat my symptoms, a number of positive things occurred. The lower back pain, which plagued me during season changes, subsided so I could continue to run outside and on the treadmill in the winter months. My general energy level increased over a period of one month's time. The herbal formulation alleviated my allergies to the point that I did not need to take prescription anti-histamines. Lastly, I'm happy to report that since taking the Herbs I had only one minor cold in the last year.
I wish to thank David for all his help and look forward to enjoying many healthy years from his advice."

You've read research and patient stories over the past months on the successful treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Crohn's disease with Oriental medicine. What if you're not given a clear diagnosis or treatment plan to deal with stomach and bowel problems that greatly influence the quality of your life? You feel lousy, but no one knows why or what to do. One of the strengths of Oriental medicine and homeopathy is the recognition of a total body/mind diagnosis. Taking into account the conventional medical view and weaving together many of your common experiences and complaints, an effective treatment plan can then begin. Life can be good again. The following is a letter from a patient with a similar health challenge.
"Since I was a small child, I had suffered from what my doctor called a lazy gall bladder. It is a terrible condition that first gives you a mind-knocking headache, then makes you empty your stomach by vomiting, and finally knocks you down exhausted for a whole day. I am very familiar with this condition and so is my mother and sister. I had learned to accept this condition as part of my life. I was able to function most days, throw up, and lose days without major changes in my lifestyle. The coping with the problem, however, changed after I was married and brought my new wife into my life. Whenever I got sick, which was usually during the weekend, my wife was affected because she was unable to do anything during my sick time. This situation increased tension between my wife and I when we had our first child and then again this year when we had our second child. Every time that I got sick, my wife had to take care not only of our kids, but of me. This created a very stressful environment and forced me into trying to get better or to reduce the recurrences of the disease.
I have known about Dave Sollars for over two years now. I met his wife before and we have talked about a consultation for over a year now. I just did not have had the time to seek advice from him. This time, however, I had all the pressure to make the time. I went to his office and discussed my problem. To my surprise, he knew my condition, and devised a plan to address it. From that moment on, my life changed. I was able to wake up during the weekend without a bitter taste in my mouth. I was very surprised that I did not have any headaches and most important that I had the time to help my wife to take care of our children. To date, I have not been sick. It has been the beginning of a new life for me. I can now enjoy my weekends and family and there is less overall stress to cope with. Thank you."

Successful Treatment of Allergies Using Homeopathy
"Every morning I would wake up with the agony of not being able to breath. My lungs felt as if they were filled with phlegm. My nose felt like two corks were stuck in them. I was sick and tired of waking up feeling this way. I kept asking my parents to do something about my allergies. My mom kept giving me pills that worked for eight hours and made me drowsy. One day, my mom told me that her friend was trying homeopathy. “What the heck is that?” I asked. Little did I know this little known alternative therapy would be one of the best things that has happened to my health.
My first meeting with Mr. Sollars took about one hour. He wasn’t checking my nose or looking down my throat. He was asking how I thought my body felt. The whole time I was sitting in a chair. As I left I asked my mom, “All he’s doing is asking me stuff. What’s that going to do?” The next time I got my medicine it came in a container no bigger than my pinkie finger. Inside were these little white pills that seemed too small to measure. Mr. Sollars asked me to give it a try. “Take three pills once a day,” he said. “That’s all!” I couldn’t believe that these tiny pills would fix my problem.
One week passed and I started to notice that my inhaler was not being used as much, and I didn’t use any allergy pills either. I could breathe! I felt this confidence about me that was unbelievable!
It has been about two years since my first visit. I haven’t had one attack, and I can sleep peacefully. It’s a simple procedure that will allow me to live a normal life."
C.W., Andover, MA
"I was getting frequent colds and a terrible cough. This condition would last for 2-3 weeks.
Six months ago I had my first visit with David Sollars which lasted one hour. We covered all aspects of my health, work, home life, moods, stresses, emotions, etc. Within a week, I received my first batch of herbs by mail. After taking everything into consideration at the time of our visit, these herbs were made up especially for me. The herbs not only helped my immune system, they also helped my overall well being.
I keep a daily log of how I’m feeling. This is a great way to help give accurate feedback to Dave so he can fine tune my herbal prescription to best suit my needs.
I am very pleased with the results I have had so far. I would recommend this alternative herbal medicine to anyone looking to heal the core of the illness who has not been helped by conventional medicine."
"It Was Like the Heavens Opened Up for Me!"
"I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 21/2 years ago by a rheumatologist. I had spent a good 2 years going through various tests and complaining to my PC. He would tell me to come back in 6 months if I didn't feel better. I was not satisfied with his answer and would return in 3 months. T that point, he would say, "Everything looks fine. Why are you here?" So, I would repeat my symptoms once more. There was a lot of pain in areas that did not make any sense, headaches, and terrible confusion. But the most debilitating of all was the constant fatigue and sleep or no sleep patterns.
I have always been a fairly active person. I needed and wanted to work part time. I left a good job 5 years ago thinking at "my age" I could no longer take the pressure. No matter how few hours I worked, I could not keep up with the pace.
After many tests, the rheumatologist finally diagnosed fibromyalgia and put me on Prozac for fatigue and depression. I refused this medication for 3 months, but finally gave in. After 6 months, I did see a difference with the depression. For over a year, I paced myself…crash sleeping late afternoon and evening, back to bed at 8:30, pushing all the time or going to work on 3-4 hours sleep. All I got from my doctor was another prescription.
In May a friend called and said, "Joyce, you must go see David Sollars. He is an acupuncturist and specializes in fibromyalgia." It was like the heavens opened up for me. I have done reading and research in this field and knew that at least it was not going to harm me. David set up a treatment plan of acupuncture and herbal medicine designed specifically for me. My overall condition has improved greatly. The pain has decreased at least 70%. I may nap once a week and am able to stay awake until 10 and do things rather than vegetate. I am spending more time with my grandchildren, which is a joyful part of my life and do not refuse many invitations. I am gradually learning to go to work without the fear of my condition showing physically or mentally. I recently went away for a 3-day vacation. In the past if I pushed myself to do this, I would have pain for at least 5 days and, of course, totally uncomfortable during my stay and certainly not the best of company. My most recent trip consisted of shopping, swimming, fishing, boating, and walking. Most of all, I had so much fun and felt so good to be doing what I wanted and be a part of my life and those that I love.
So now that I am seeing results, I do not have to wonder…am I really getting better? I am beginning to think I have had fibromyalgia for many years, but I really don't care because I truly believe in the near future my health will be as it should be. I am so thankful to David Sollars and all his staff at FirstHealth for their help."
“I am pleased to share with you my success with herbal therapy. I began treatment a year ago for menopausal symptoms. After a few weeks of acupuncture I began herbal therapy. It has done a much-welcomed job of keeping my hot flashes, mood swings, and other symptoms under control. The symptoms are not totally erased, but instead are lessened to a point where I don't hardly notice when a hot flash occurs. For me the peace of mind not to have to deal with HRT is well worth slight changes. I have recommended this approach to all of my friends, and I'm pleased to say a few have joined me in this treatment.”
Labor Gets Underway ... Naturally
Acupuncture to the Rescue!
"During the 34th week of our pregnancy, our baby was transverse. Our midwife recommended acupuncture as a potential means of getting the baby to turn into the proper head-down position. David Sollars of FirstHealth taught us a daily procedure that we performed ourselves; within a couple of weeks, our baby had turned.
We again sought David's help when our pregnancy rolled into week 42, at which point our healthcare providers wanted to induce labor. The day before we were due to visit our midwife to discuss induction, we visited David, who performed a needle-acupuncture procedure designed to induce labor naturally. Within 12 hours, labor began and our son arrived in perfect health the following day."

Moxa Therapy Assists in Breech Pregnancy
Turn, Baby, Turn!
"Last September, my husband and I were excited to find out we were expecting our first child. Up until the 32nd week, the pregnancy was progressing smoothly until our doctor discovered that our baby was in the breach position. She explained that the baby would only turn within the next 3-4 weeks and that a cesarean birth would be necessary if the baby didn’t change position. Wanting to avoid the need for a cesarean, my husband and I were hoping for a quick solution. Thanks to my husband’s mother, we were (quickly) introduced to David Sollars. David recommended we try the moxa therapy and was confident it would help turn the baby. My husband and I met with David, at which time he thoroughly explained the moxa therapy, performed one treatment on me and taught my husband how to perform the treatment from home. We followed David’s instructions and were happy to find out at our 34th week checkup that the baby had changed position! Needless to say, we were thrilled and very thankful to David for introducing us to the safe and effective manuals of Oriental Medicine."

Successful Treatment of Compartment Syndrome
"Mid winter 2003 my wrists started to get sore with use of a keyboard and mouse... Didn't seem like a big deal so I just learned to "live" with it. Over time...4-5 months... it wasn't something I could block out anymore. It affected my lifestyle as well as my performance at work. My wrist felt fatigued, sore, achy ...driving, eating, etc... I started wearing wrist straps when on a computer, but this was more of my uneducated attempt to address the situation. I then started to read up on different wrist injuries (carpal tunnel syndrome, myofascial pain syndrome, fibromyalgia, thoracic outlet syndrome, reflexive sympathetic dystrophy, etc.).
Reading about some of these syndromes puts a lump in your throat especially as you start to relate to a lot of the symptoms. First thing to realize is you are never too young to get a lot of these and everyone's physical make up is different; some people are more susceptible to them than others...the commonality between them is repetitive motion. My real eye opening event is when I woke up one morning and my hands where numb ... I then went in to see Dave Sollars at his clinic. He had me first meet with a chiropractor that works at Dave's office, Paul Schoonman. He did many tests to narrow down my symptoms and turns out I had the medical term... compartment syndrome ...this is where a section of muscle becomes so tense and hard that it squeezes the nerves so much it starts to inflame and make the nerves say ouchy ... So my wrist pain was actually being caused by tense muscles in my forearms.
Paul told me I was in his top ten hardest forearms category (I didn't know if I should smile or cry). From there I went for about 2 months, twice a week to see Dave and Paul...Paul would start by heating the muscles and then using some specialty tools...kind of like a skinny round bar that he would push and drag against my forearm muscles to
break up the muscle mass. Dave would then follow up after with acupuncture treatments. After just the first treatment, I noticed improvement...not perfect but a definite improvement. After the next months, I slowly saw improvement.
I no longer go to see them, but every night I lift weights concentrating on my wrists and forearms, followed by massaging my forearms and using a large wooden spoon to massage the muscles. I take many stretch breaks during the day. Ergonomics and posture are also very important...I noticed when I sit in front of my computer, my posture was horrible (still is until I catch my self sitting like a slob).
This is a lifestyle changing event. To me it was an eye opener as this was something I just took for granted. The most important thing is get help as soon as possible. The only thing waiting will do is increase the pain and with some of these other types of syndromes you can do more permanent damage. Being only 27 years old, I need these wrists for awhile longer. I still have some discomfort but seeing positive results and having a plan and understanding gives me the hope to have the wrists I used to have! What Dave and Paul did for me gave me so much more respect for what they do as a profession."

Successful Treatment of Foot Injury Using CAM (Complementary Alternative Medicine)
Marathon Runner's Foot Injury. "I am writing to express my thanks for David's help with the injury to my foot. As many people knew, I was very skeptical about acupuncture and homeopathic medicine, but your treatments for my injury have made me a believer! Soon after my first treatment, my injury began to heal and each following treatment extended the period of time I was able to train "without pain." Before receiving a combination treatment consisting of acupuncture, magnet therapy, and a homeopathic ointment, I would wake up every morning and not be able to walk because of the pain.
After four weeks of treatments, I am at a point where I will be able to participate in the event I have been training for. Most surprising is the fact that I refused to stop my training which included running approximately 85 miles per week and was still able to recover from my injury with the treatments. I have and will continue to recommend FirstHealth of Andover to others who have sports injuries and other medical problems that an be treated through acupuncture, magnet therapy, and homeopathic medicine. I truly believe it is the future of medicine. Thanks again for all your help, David."

Successful Treatment of Low Back Pain Using Acupuncture and Clinical Exercise Program
"On Easter Sunday in April of 2000, in preparation for company, I picked up a fairly lightweight armchair and felt a sharp tug in my lower back. For the remainder of the day, I felt a residual mild ache in the area but nothing that kept me from enjoying the day. On the next morning, however, I got out of bed, bent over to pick up some clothing from the floor and felt a searing pain that caused me to fall back into bed.
Over the next two days, the pain was so excruciating with numbness occurring in my groin and upper right leg that my physician ordered an MRI. I’ve always been proud of my strong back and my ability to lift oil burners, boilers, air conditioners and other heavy equipment in various jobs throughout my life. Unfortunately, the MRI showed that all that heavy lifting had exacted a price – deterioration of the lower vertebrae with bulging of three discs and rupture of two others. My doctor gave me a cortisone shot along with a prescription for pain medication and told me to stay off my feet until the pain subsided.
For the next two and a half weeks, the only place where I could find any rest was lying on my couch which had a ¾ inch plywood board under the cushions. Quite frankly, I got pretty tired of looking at the ceiling and the four walls in that room. My wife describes me as “stoic” but anytime I tried to walk the pain sent me back to the couch. Somewhere in the middle of the third week, my wife suggested acupuncture. She had heard from her secretary about David Sollars’ success in treating her father. With some skepticism, but also desperation, I agreed to try it.
On my first appointment, Mr. Sollars took plenty of time to explain the rationale and procedure for acupuncture as well as the expectations including not to expect to be totally free of pain immediately after the first visit. I did feel some relief after that visit and it only took another two before I was able to return to work with bearable discomfort. Another six treatments and I was totally free of pain and remained that way for a year. That following Spring I again injured my back. This time, I immediately went to Mr. Sollars and it took only a few treatments before I was pain free again.
Six months later, I experienced sharp pain in my right shoulder. I did not get any relief with two acupuncture procedures to the shoulder so Mr. Sollars recommended an alternative therapy to my right ear, explaining that many of the nerve pathways go through the ear. One application to my ear and I was again pain free.
In the next four years I enthusiastically recommended Mr. Sollars to others who were experiencing similar pain. One friend had suffered with unrelenting back pain, unrelieved by medication, for eighteen months. After three acupuncture treatments by Mr. Sollars he’s been pain free for two years.
Until February 15th of this year I’ve had no pain in my back and no limitation in my activities - other than avoiding heavy lifting. However, on the 15th I again felt some mild discomfort in my lower back after doing some abdominal crunches. I suppose that I should have rested that weekend. But, instead, I succumbed to the lure of new fallen snow up north and went skiing – not a good idea. By noon on Saturday, my back was screaming with pain which radiated into my right thigh. Again, I immediately sought Mr. Sollars’ help. This time, with the acupuncture, the pain was initially improved from “screaming” to bearable and I was able to continue working. And, to anyone who reads this, I highly recommend Mr. David Sollars of FirstHealth and his very effective treatments."

"I'm writing to express my sincerest gratitude to the staff at FirstHealth of Andover. When I first came to see David Sollars for acupuncture last fall (soon after beginning chemotherapy treatments for non-hodgkins' lymphoma), I had never been as ill, more physically miserable, or apprehensive. From the beginning, I knew I'd found a special health-care practitioner and the entire staff of FirstHealth to be incredibly supportive, efficient, and kind. Everyone was and continues to be part of my healing team. The advice I received on nutrition was incredibly informative and practical. I'd always eaten a healthy diet and was surprised and pleased with her advice.
Regular acupuncture treatments coordinated with chemotherapy helped me to stay as strong as possible as my body was assaulted by the toxic drugs. Our work together with the Chinese herbs that we began once the chemotherapy and acupuncture were finished has helped me back to excellent health in a very short time, despite 22 radiation treatments that followed chemotherapy! My immune system is strong and I feel vibrant. I especially appreciate your sensitivity to my concerns over possible premature menopause caused by the chemotherapy and of normal sexual function. I also appreciate your respect for and knowledge of both eastern and western medicine.
As a healthcare practitioner myself, it was extremely challenging to be on the receiving end of the healthcare system. Thank you, David, and your entire staff for everything you've done for me over the past several months. You are a special group of people."
In love and gratitude,
B.A.,PT and feldenkrais practitioner
Painful Menses Take a Hike with CAM (Complementary Alternative Medicine)
Acupuncture and herbs have been found to be highly effective in regulating many different imbalances in the menstrual cycle. The following is a letter from a patient who wanted to share her experience.
"Having just been told that a hysterectomy was the best possible solution for what had become twice monthly heavy and painful menstrual bleeding, I stated emphatically to my physician that it was simply out of the question and began looking for alternatives. After researching Chinese medicine and acupuncture specifically, I contacted one of the professional associations for a referral to a Chinese herbalist. I received David's name and explanation that he was also an acupuncturist and experienced with naturopathic practices. David's soothing manner, intent listening skills, and sound knowledge of Oriental healing practices were a welcome relief to the absence of dialogue I have experienced with western medicine.
We formed a triumvirate partnership with David's knowledge and experience, my divine sources of healing, and myself with the shared intention of resolving this. Using a combination of herbal and acupuncture methods, I am happy to report that I am having one cycle a month, on time to the day, and what is the closest to a reasonable flow I have experienced in twenty-five plus years. Perhaps if there is one aspect that cannot be emphasized enough it is the importance of focused intention. During each session and at other times whenever it came to mind, I stated clearly to myself, "I am well," and directed healing to my womb.
It is with great gratitude I thank my partners in this matter and acknowledge to you that I trust David with my life. I do not say this lightly or often of anyone."

"I just wanted to take a moment and thank you for all of your help. A couple of months ago when I first came to see you, I was both nervous and starting to believe what all of the doctors were telling me—that I was going to have to give up playing hockey, the sport I love (I honestly don't know which is worse). I was skeptical because I didn't understand what acupuncture was all about, nor did I know if it really worked. You put my mind at ease by explaining to me what to expect from the treatments, and everything you told me was true, including the part about the needles being painless. The needles really were not big deal, in fact one time you told me you had used 22 needles, and I had to guess based on what I felt, I would have said you put in three!
It was a long time between my injury and my coming to see you…I only wish I had come sooner! A friend had mentioned acupuncture to me one time in passing. Then my girlfriend mentioned that one of her co-workers had seen you for a similar injury and was now back to 100%. Finally Wendel Clark, formerly of the Toronto Maple Leafs, now of the Detroit Red Wings, said in an interview that he hated playing in a certain city because there were no good acupuncturists in it! I decided to give it a try, after all it kept a 38-year old professional hockey player on the ice, maybe it could get me back between the pipes…what did I have to lose?
I am happy to say that last Thursday, I put on my goalie pads for the first time in over six months and never felt better. Thanks to your treatments and regiment of herbal medicine, I am back on the path to my dream of representing Austria in an ice hockey world cup.
I have recommended your office to many of my friends, coworkers, and fellow hockey players. I tell them all it might not work for your particular type of injury, but you never know…I didn't think it would work for me either. It did."

A Tailbone Injury Led to My Discovery of Non-Needle Acupuncture
"My first experience with acupuncture was for relief of hot flashes and mood swings that come along with the lovely changes that women experience during menopause. FirstHealth of Andover actually made that transition for me a very pleasant and uneventful one. It never occurred to me that acupuncture would actually help with pain and healing. However, after taking a nice slip on the ice and a trip to the emergency room, I decided to give it a try.
Being in the fitness industry, pain medication and all kinds of physical restrictions was not the path I wanted to go down. So I figured why not give it a try. Well after the first session, I could actually feel the pain leaving my body and knew that I had made the right choice. I actually had what is called auricular acupuncture. Because of my injury being near the tailbone and coccyx (a hard area to get at), this was the option that was presented to me. It was very cool. You hold a probe in your hand while the practitioner is at your ear with some sort of electric current stimulating the point in my ear that corresponded to the part of my body that was in trouble. It was so relaxing I actually fell asleep!
I am thrilled that once again I looked to FirstHealth for their help and once again they were there for me!!"

Successful Treatment of Depression Using Homeopathy
"I was getting desperate for help to treat my depression, but was not willing to try traditional drugs due to their side effects. David and I discussed how I was feeling, what may be causing my depression, and then he picked a homeopathic remedy that targeted my specific needs. In three days, I felt so much better? Now I take my remedy for only one day when needed, and I haven't needed it at all for the last 1 ½ months. I don't truly understand how it all works; I just know it does work. Thanks!"
Successful Treatment Using Homeopathy for Chronic Muscle Spasms
"I heard about David Sollars through a friend of mine who had many problems with his legs and was remarkably helped within a short time. After exerting all other options, I decided to make an appointment with David to discuss my chronic muscle spasms I had been experiencing for nine years. David immediately made me feel relaxed and at home and analyzed my background thoroughly to attempt to pinpoint what the underlying problem could be. I had tried a number of solutions starting with acupuncture which temporarily worked. I then moved onto herbs but had a hard time digesting them. Then David gave me a homeopathic remedy and through his excellent guidance and a combination of techniques, my muscle spasms subsided and my life started to change. David never gave up with trying to help me overcome my problem and never let me give certain situations in my life in a more open and realistic manner without feeling the pressures from stress. David truly helped me with my body and mind, and I firmly believe it has made me a stronger person."
