Phase I

We are constantly bombarded by weight management programs and strategies. We are told and know that excess weight is a health risk. There are countless programs and plans that claim to be the most effective to help us manage our weight and improve our health. Which to choose? What is the right choice?

Based on the research associated with a weight management program that is effective and long term, there are three factors that need to be addressed; 1) an exercise plan that incorporates cardiovascular and resistance training to increase caloric expenditure and increase or maintain muscle mass; 2) a Lifestyle/dietary approach that emphasizes balanced nutrition and decrease calorie consumption; and 3) a behavior-modification tactic to support the implementation of the exercises and dietary changes.
