What Acupuncture Treats
Top Reasons Why Acupuncture Is a Catalyst for
Healing
The World Health
Organization lists
many conditions that
acupuncture may be able to treat. These range from
pain to cardiovascular problems, digestive issues
and allergies, neurological symptoms and everything
in between. Many people see this list and wonder how
is it possible that acupuncture could be effective
for such a large and diverse number of conditions.
The reason for this leads to the heart of how
acupuncture works.
Acupuncture is a
catalyst for healing. There is no medicine on the
needles and nothing is being added to the body. An
acupuncture treatment is a message, asking and
encouraging the body to respond in certain ways. The
human body is constantly seeking homeostasis and an
acupuncture treatment can facilitate this process to
happen faster by encouraging the bodies natural
healing capacity.
With this new
perspective on acupuncture we can now see how it can
be effective in treating this long list of
conditions. Unlike medications which only manage
symptoms, acupuncture is able to work holistically
encouraging the bodies natural healing processes. In
this new paradigm, healing can occur on a deeper
level within the human body and symptoms can be
resolved.
The Side Effects of Acupuncture
The majority of people
coming in for an acupuncture visit have never tried
acupuncture previously. For most of them their only
interactions with medical providers have involved
medications, injections and surgeries. Often at the
top of their list of questions about acupuncture is
what are the side effects. Based on their past
experiences this is a logical question.
While there are a couple
of side effects of acupuncture treatment, they are
usually quite mild and very rare. The most common
side effects, those that almost always occur, are
positive. These include better sleep, improved
energy and less stress. Regardless of the main
complaint I can almost always be sure that the above
side effects will occur. In our fast paced busy
modern world these are side effects that we all can
use.
Acupuncture is a
holistic method to encourage the bodies natural
healing processes. In this way we may treat someone
for headaches and in a couple of weeks they remark
that their headaches are improved but also their
acid reflux has gone away and their back doesn't
hurt anymore even though they never mentioned these
other problems previously. This is not an uncommon
situation. It is due to the fact that acupuncture
does not treat just one “problem” but addresses the
healing of the whole person. |
