Successful Use of Complementary Alternative Medicine for Fibromyalgia Patients

"Today I baked three banana breads, did some housework, worked on a quilt for the church fair, walked the dog, and now typing at my computer. Sounds like a typical day for a homebody like me, doesn't it? Well, it would be except for the fact that I have fibromyalgia. I have suffered with chronic pain in my neck and shoulders for about six and a half years now, not to mention al the other symptoms I've had to endure.

At first I thought I was dying with every dreaded disease in the book. I kept this all to myself and tried to live a normal life. Back then, a good day was being able to hold my head up all day without having to lie down and take a nap.

Now I come to three weeks before Thanksgiving 1999. I was having a nice day with my husband when all of a sudden I got a stabbing pain in the original spot in my shoulder blade that had started this whole thing years ago. It was so strong I could almost not take a breath. This quickly precipitated a migraine-style headache and a slow but sure flare up. I took to bed crying my eyes out, not at all like myself. I just couldn't stand it anymore. My husband had wanted me to try acupuncture. So, thanks to a frantic-sounding call from my husband, I ended up the next day with my first acupuncture appointment with David Sollars. Much to my surprise, David is also an herbalist. Anyway, I had my first treatment and found it felt strangely good. Between the acupuncture treatments and the Chinese herbal prescription that David so expertly designed for me, I have been coming back to life.

Since my first treatment, I haven't had a headache at all. My sinuses, which were perpetually swollen and stuffed up, are now clear. The constipation from the irritable bowel syndrome that is also part of fibromyalgia has also cleared up, and the fatigue has vanished. The dizziness and "brain fog" that causes forgetfulness are clearing up too. I still have mini flare ups, but a heating pad, some rest or a hot bath are now more effective than ever.

I have tried many things hoping for a cure. The results that I have had with the combined effect of acupuncture and herbs occurred so quickly I'm still amazed. In spite of my stubborn skepticism, my hope has been renewed. I would highly recommend to anyone suffering from fibromyalgia or any other chronic pain to give this therapy a try.

Well, I think I'll go split some firewood for the stove now. Just kidding!!! But I think I just might be up to this soon!"
